GPS
receivers and low noise RF amplifiers
In addition to our filter and diplexer products Cross
Country Wireless Ltd also produce two electronic products to order as a
result of the development of our CCW RST
radio survey tool.
The GPS receiver is based on the Motorola
VP Oncore GPS receiver module. The Oncore GPS receiver can
simultaneously track 8 satellites at speeds of up to 1000 knots and 4
g acceleration. The receiver is optimised for land based mobile
operation in urban environments and is ideal for use in motor
vehicles.
The GPS receiver is housed in a small weather
resistant aluminium box measuring 140 x 100 x 50mm with two mounting
lugs. An internal regulated power supply allows the receiver to be
powered from any 9 to 20 volt DC supply with reverse polarity
protection.
Internal signal processing allows the receiver to
receive DGPS corrections and give an RS232 NMEA or Motorola binary
code position output to a PC. The GPS receiver is fully Y2K and GPS
week 1023 compliant.
We regularly use these GPS receivers
ourselves as part of our radio survey tool. We have used one
successfully on a high speed train (up to 125 mph or 210 kph) network
optimisation survey using a GPS antenna inside the railway
carriage.
The low noise amplifier is also housed in an
identical box to the GPS receiver. The amplifier is designed to give
20 dB gain with a noise figure of 1.5 dB over the GSM1800 frequency
allocation.
